Plan a usable arcade floor by separating cabinet footprints, player movement, service access and delivery constraints.

Planning an Arcade Floor: Access, Player Space and Machine Mix

Updated 24 September 2026 · Practical purchasing guidance. Product configuration and commercial terms must be confirmed for the actual order.

Measure the whole route

Check the route from the unloading point to the final position: door openings, lifts, corridor turns and floor transitions. Compare those measurements with packed dimensions and the dimensions of any approved separated sections. Do not assume a machine can be dismantled simply because the complete cabinet will not fit.

Reserve more than the footprint

The cabinet envelope is only one part of the layout. Include the manufacturer's operating and service clearances, player movement and any queue. Motion, basketball and dance installations can need different clearances. Obtain model-specific instructions and do not replace them with a single allowance for every machine.

Balance neighbouring experiences

Consider sound, screen visibility, shared player space and how staff supervise the area. A rhythm installation may need room for active players and spectators; a prize machine needs replenishment access. Review the proposed arrangement in the venue before committing to quantities.

Create an installation brief

  • Mark cabinet positions and player areas on a scaled plan.
  • Record electrical requirements from the offered units, not a generic product family.
  • Identify network-dependent features and the intended connection.
  • Confirm service access and an unobstructed route through the venue.
  • Ask the installer to review the final arrangement before delivery.

Test the layout in stages

Where practical, mark the proposed spaces on the floor and walk the visitor and servicing routes. Revise the mix using the actual site constraints. A floor plan can help avoid unsuitable equipment choices, but it is not a promise of attendance, retention or revenue.

Plan by player activity, not cabinet footprint alone

Start with a measured floor plan that shows entrances, emergency routes, columns, power locations and the delivery path. Cabinet dimensions describe the equipment; they do not automatically include room for players, a queue, an attendant or maintenance. Ask for the model manual before assigning those additional clearances.

Basketball: ball movement and overhead space

Legendary Shooter combines physical basketball shooting with a reference 65-inch display and a listed height of 2800 mm. Check ceiling clearance, player position, score sensing and ball return. Keep neighbouring games out of the intended player area, and confirm any hoop movement on the actual cabinet rather than assuming all editions have it.

Shooting: headsets and controller movement

VR Spy adds headset handling to gun-controller play. Plan how players put on, remove and clean shared headsets. Monster Rampage 3 uses a shared screen; its reference height differs with and without the top decoration. Tomorrow’s Action needs checks for its handheld and mounted-gun format and both display panels. These are different operating arrangements, even though all three are shooting games.

Fighting cabinets: control access and side-by-side play

Compare Honeycomb with the Fighting Arcade Cabinet by control-panel layout, reference dimensions and the installed game board. Leave usable space for both players and access to service panels. Verify software documentation and commercial-use permissions separately from cabinet condition.

Separate the installation plan from the delivery plan

A machine may fit in its operating position but not through a door or lift. Check the packed width, height, weight and package count against the entire route. Ask who is responsible for unloading, approved separation and reassembly. For heavy or motion-equipped cabinets, agree the handling method with the installer before shipment.

Turn the floor plan into a quotation checklist

Mark each shortlisted model on the plan and send its product link, quantity and preferred condition. Request current photos, the electrical nameplate, a running demonstration and confirmed packed measurements. Record installation clearances from the appropriate manual, not from an unverified general rule. Review the shooting model range and basketball and fighting cabinet range before asking for a mixed order.
